Shakespeare on Meltdown in the Telegraph

The Telegraph's Nicholas Shakespeare reviews Meltdown as part of the usual quartet of of myself, Gillian Tett, Vince and George Soros. He writes:

"Mason, Newsnight’s macabrely watchable economics editor, covers the same ground as Cable, like him using statistics that melt even as they are written down. He is most valuable when coaxing from the shadows the neoliberal philosophy that he discerns behind the meltdown, embodied in the terrifying relationship between the Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan and Ayn Rand. Sitting at her feet in 1952 as she read from Atlas Shrugged, the man soon to be known as the Maestro imbibed Rand’s credo of selfishness: “I will never live for the sake of another man.” It became the guiding economic principle of his self-confessed “flawed” ideology – namely, that “relentless pursuit of self-interest is the best guarantee of social good; regulation and state intervention are, as cures for market failure, ‘worse than the disease’.”
