Congratulations on your brililant lucid description of the mess we find outselves in. Couldn't put it down. Is anything really concrete happening to address the problems to stop the greed destroying everyone's lives? Am not very conversant with economics but would like to recall details. Resume in timeline form would be so helpful. Thanks again.

Attended the Purcell Room event which I found informative but it flashed past so fast. I would like to have asked the following question. Maybe Paul or others could comment. We have had a housing bubble caused in part by supply and demand. Even though house prices are falling they are still inaccessible to many and the sub-prime market has had its wings clipped. The need for decent affordable social housing has never been greater. Would not a massive building programme to house the never to be house purchasers provide vitally needed housing, employ building companies in difficulties, and by my reckoning reduce overinflated costs for temporary or private rental accommodation subsidised by the State. How come the government resolutely refuses to fund social house building, not only be RSLs but also by local councils, even though it seems sense and resolutions to support this have been passed at multiple Labour Party conferences. Who gains by this blinkered policy?
